TLC (Teen Leadership Conference) Is coming soon!
I am so excited for our upcoming youth conference… I hope you are too!
Here are my 5 W’s, for your need-to-know information.
1. Who? We have a good group going this year!
Highschool teenagers and youth leaders of Emmanuel Baptist Church. There are going to be around 400 other HS students and a ton of leaders and pastors that will be together at this amazing conference.
2. What? What is this retreat all about?
TLC stands for Teen Leadership Conference and is a part of our association of churches called the Baptist Network Northwest. Pastors and leaders have been bringing their church kids for decades.
There are several different workshops that speak directly to the students and where they are at in life, with God being the central of every message. There is also a main speaker that will be speaking in the main sessions. This year, his name is, Dr. Sam Baker, from Corban University.
3. When?
Dates are December 30- January 1.
What we like to do and have done every year, is start the night before at Camp Gilead. Come to camp sometime in the evening, then go to bed early, then we get up early to get on the road early, for the long 6-7 hour road trip. The retreat is over sometime around noon on the 1st, some stops along the way (gas, maybe dinner) and get home later evening. We will have kids call their parents to give an ETA to get picked up/dropped off.
4. Where?
TLC is at a Young Life camp in Antelope Oregon, called Washington Family Ranch. It’s a beautiful camp in the middle of nowhere. It can get pretty cold in central Oregon, so bring warm clothes and lots of layers. There is a lot of walking to and from buildings, so good idea to wear good shoes for that. There is a huge gym where we will be during free time… bring proper athletic gear, or play in jeans. If it snows, you will want to be ready for that as well (we will have a good idea if it does when we get closer to the date, and let you know), snow jacket, stocking cap, boots, etc.
5. Why? Are we doing this?
TLC is a retreat that provides a rich opportunity for high school, college-age students & leaders to deepen their walk with Christ and service. It’s a pretty amazing opportunity to be part of this retreat. I have seen the Lord work in many ways when I have gone in the past and I always anticipate God doing great things in the hearts of all who attend. The great opportunity and blessing is going together and being challenged in the Word.
What to bring
Everyone will need to bring their own bedding/sleeping bag, pillow, (sheets/blankets if you prefer)! Towel, toothbrush, deodorant. Bring pop, snacks and goodies to share. The last night there at the retreat, we will recap over our week and share what we have learned from the workshops/sessions we attended.
Bring your bible, notebook and pen. Sometimes there are handouts, and if you take notes you will be able to share with our group what you learned. If you have any dietary needs, please let me know. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.
You can pay the rest of your registration to Emmanuel Baptist Church- Memo: Teen Leadership Conference; child/children’s names.
